2/10/04 -- My 44th birthday, and what did my husband and children give me? Two books (actually, one book and one kit) by my friend Judy Reeves, namely, A Writer's Book of Days and A Creative Writer's Kit. Lucky me!Judy Reeves is the reason my own book project got picked up by New World Library. NWL is Judy's publisher, and it was she who got my proverbial foot in the door with her editors over there. So this is just a quick post to say "Thanks, Judy!" and to plug not only these two titles I got for my birthday a couple years ago, but also the ones she's written since: Writing Alone, Writing Together and The Writer's Retreat Kit. In the immortal words of those old Alka-Seltzer commercials, "Try it, you'll like it!" -- IT being any one of Judy's works. Sheila - This morning I had your blog with my coffee (eee-yew! sounds like some kind of earthy health drink. "Yes, I'd like a grande half caf blog mocha, please. Nonfat, of course!").
Before, I had just cruised around a little, enough to get the concept of your book and get inspired to share my "sole wisdom" (groan) with you (the foot fungus thing, rememebr?). Today I got so involved reading all the titles and teasers, the exerpts, promotionals and promises, that the coffee went cold. (Well, it didn't really - I'd never waste a good hot blog mocha - I just said that to illustrate my interest. It's a metaphor, or whatever you writer types call it.)
Girl, you have style! (I can call you "girl" cuz I'm older than you!) I love your style! Your book is going to be a huge success, I just know it. People are going to eat it up, love it, and buy it in bulk!
It was such a relief to read all your titles and teasers and be able to recognize ALL the song lyrics and "cultural references". What a change from daily life with teenagers, in which I feel like the clueless relic they tell me I am.
Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate and encourage you, and I chose this blog to do it in ("do it to?" "do it from?" I still don't get this blogging thing) because it mentions your birthday, and I see it's coming up soon.
So Happy Birthday Soon, Sheila! And keep up the great work!

It's true -- I'm about to cycle. Wrapping up lap #46 on Friday. The first of "the packages" has arrived, a tiny little thing from my mom-in-law. Ooooh, goodie! I do love birthdays --- which, I guess, is the best place to be coming from, in a book like "50 Ways."
Speaking of... I hope you are absolutely right, Pegarooni, about people buying 50/40 in bulk. That's how I keep picturing it in my richly detailed, full living color, Hollywood movie vision of The Dream! It has cherries on top, bright red shiny ones. I mean, if you're gonna be a late bloomer, you might as well make it a blossom worth waiting for! (Cherries atop blossoms -- it's a lovely dessert I call "Mixed Metaphor." Enjoy!)
